Taughannock's main cataract of the falls drops 215 ft, that's 33 ft taller than Niagara Falls. As with many areas in this region there are Indian legends that pertain to this water fall and how it got it's name. The most common variation I've heard is that it's name comes from an Indian chief who fell over the falls to his death. The falls can be viewed from and over look(accessible by car) or from the end of a 3/4 mile gorge trail. View Map
